48Straight’s Loudest Show on Snow Hits The Right Notes
Fans, bands and pros and brands mix it up at Squaw Valley, next stop… Sun Valley, Idaho
February 15, 2008

“The vibe here at Squaw is great.”
- Ken Jordan (The Crystal Method)

About the only thing missing from the official 48Straight party itinerary was sleep. The musical lineup sounded like a slice of Coachella by night. By day an international field of skiers and snowboarders competed for a piece of the $250,000 purse. And all up in the middle of it was 100” of pack on the summit left behind in the wake of January’s storms creating bluebird conditions for all. Welcome to Olympic Valley, home to Squaw Valley’s finest.

Plenty of locals took top spots against a deep field of international champs and X Game veterans. Shaun Palmer (SLT), Nate Holland (Truckee), held it down in boarder-cross. In the skier half pipe, Canadian sex symbol Sarah Burke took first amongst women with New Zealand’s Jossi “The Outlaw” Wells nabbing top honors over legendary Simon Dumont who was still recovering from a shoulder injury sustained just a few weeks ago at X Games 12. Skier cross top honors went to Tomas Kraus (Czech), and local Squaw skier Eroll Kerr (TRUCKEE) took the consolation round placing 5th overall.

Sunday morning, Sacvibe caught up with half of The Crystal Method, Ken Jordan. When asked what he was doing, he said he was getting some water and pain-reliever. He went on to say…

“We didn’t know what to expect. It’s a small community you know? We didn’t know if they’d be into it. We didn’t know if they were expecting to hear Top 40 or whatever. We don’t have any Top 40. We don’t have any hip-hop. We just did whatever we always do, it was amazing. The crowd was amazing, great crowd. I had a great time.”

You can catch the entire competition on CBS February 23 and 24 at 4 pm PDT.
