TONIGHT - Summer Kicks Off With Funky Latin Beats
“Concert in the Park” with Sol Peligro - probably the best latin band in the area.
May 2, 2008

Locals who don’t even like concerts even know about “Concert in the Park.” And local music lovers generally mark the begriming of summer with the inaugural kick-off which goes down tonight. When the local “Concert in the Park” kicks off tonight around 5:30, at least 600 or so locals will show up and maybe more than 1,000. Cesar Chavez Park is located at the corner of 10th and J downtown, has hosted such acts as The Deftones, Tesla and War. And while the sponsors have become totally corporate trying to cash in on cool, the event has maintained a sense of independence.

Tonight’s act, Sol Peligro has been a regular on the local circuit and even toured nationally on a Budweiser sponsored gig if memory serves correctly. They ain’t big enough to get a Wiki page, but they are big en ought to put out some seriously tasty latin rhythms that you can be your ass the ladies will be moving to.

The family friendly event is split into two distinct regions, under 21 and over 21. The over crowd has access to the beer garden and everybody has access to about half a dozen food vendors slinging burritos, chinese and other standard “fair” fare. Oh, did we forget to mention, it’s always free?
