48Straight’s Loudest Show on Snow Hits The Right Notes
Fans, bands and pros and brands mix it up at Squaw Valley, next stop… Sun Valley, Idaho
February 15, 2008
“The vibe here at Squaw is great.”
- Ken Jordan (The Crystal Method)
About the only thing missing from the official 48Straight party itinerary was sleep. The musical lineup sounded like a slice of Coachella by night. By day an international field of skiers and snowboarders competed for a piece of the $250,000 purse. And all up in the middle of it was 100” of pack on the summit left behind in the wake of January’s storms creating bluebird conditions for all. Welcome to Olympic Valley, home to Squaw Valley’s finest.
Plenty of locals took top spots against a deep field of international champs and X Game veterans. Shaun Palmer (SLT), Nate Holland (Truckee), held it down in boarder-cross. In the skier half pipe, Canadian sex symbol Sarah Burke took first amongst women with New Zealand’s Jossi “The Outlaw” Wells nabbing top honors over legendary Simon Dumont who was still recovering from a shoulder injury sustained just a few weeks ago at X Games 12. Skier cross top honors went to Tomas Kraus (Czech), and local Squaw skier Eroll Kerr (TRUCKEE) took the consolation round placing 5th overall.
Sunday morning, Sacvibe caught up with half of The Crystal Method, Ken Jordan. When asked what he was doing, he said he was getting some water and pain-reliever. He went on to say…
“We didn’t know what to expect. It’s a small community you know? We didn’t know if they’d be into it. We didn’t know if they were expecting to hear Top 40 or whatever. We don’t have any Top 40. We don’t have any hip-hop. We just did whatever we always do, it was amazing. The crowd was amazing, great crowd. I had a great time.”
You can catch the entire competition on CBS February 23 and 24 at 4 pm PDT.
Squaw Valley Hosts Jeep King of the Mountain Feb 8 - 11
The “Loudest Show on Snow,” comes back to Lake Tahoe for second year in a row
Last year, this event had different sponsors, but the main thing was that it was never d one before. Touted as the “Loudest Show on Snow,” the Honda Ski Tour made it’s debut and ended by slamming into Squaw Valley with Simon Dumont taking the big win and a free Honda SUV when it was all over. At night, it was all about good vibes with George Clinton,
Pro riders compete for a grab at the $250,000 purse by day, and top music acts entertain the masses by night.

Now that the ESPN Winter X Games 12 is in the books, (Shaun White did not revenge last years “loss,” losing out to shred-celeb Andreas Wiig, it’s time plan the trip to Squaw Valley and celebrate mountain culture with the best athletes, bands and Djs in the country. Full Story »

The original Blue Men live in Morocco. They wore cheap blue clothing that the French traded them which ran when it got wet. The liked it, and eventually became, “Blue Men.”

The American version is from New York and has quite a different story; three guys with day jobs as caterers took to the streets performing short skits that eventually landed them a paid gig to create a full-length show after the New York Times said of their shorts, “deliriously antic blend of music, painting and clowning”.

One of the most creative musical tours on the planet is headed for ARCO this Friday, Blue Man Group. Three guys from New York who worked in catering but worked off-days as street performers beating unique and home-made percussion instruments and eventually became one of the most incredible and original groups on the scene from Vegas to New York and Canada.

Blue Man Group is very family-friendly and gets very close to the audience, so much so ponchos are given to the front row sections and their website tells fans not to wear expensive clothes. Although they never sing on-stage, their music is thought provoking. It would ruin a show to tell much more, so for now, this is it. The best show of the year is around the corner and if you don’t go, then you’ll have to settle for second-best, whatever that may be.
